Wow, a blood moon is gorgeous. But a Draconian Republican economist admitting government is good? In any way? That's outrageously good! And about as frequent, sadly.
This economics professor told me last spring that he favored cutting social security, among other things. When I asked him, what about all the elderly people, people like myself who depend on SS to live, what about all those who would die if that is done? He just looked at me and shrugged. "I'm draconian," he said.
I've talked about it here a few times.
So, straight up. Old people dying left and right after the right wing dominated Republicans get control of the Senate and they and the House vote to decrease Social Security, eliminate Medicare and Medicaid as we know them. As outlined in the Paul Ryan's budget which they just PASSED.
Yep. Fine with Prof. Draconian.
As if government is all bad, all the time, in almost all cases.
Go below the orange to see my happy dance.
He and his wife and two children are moving.
From Florida which has crappy schools to a Northern city which does not.
They will have to pay double the taxes.
But. BUT. BUT!!!!!
It "evens out." Because the schools there are good, private tuition fees to provide a decent education to their children will be unnecessary!
Essentially, he admitted the usefulness, the goodness, the benefit of government in the lives of his own family!
I was so non-plussed to hear this that I didn't ask him to admit the obvious conclusion:
GOVERNMENT IS GOOD.
Government has a purpose.
Taxes can be a good thing, necessary for civil society.
Commonwealth/Government = Good thing.
Public Schools funded and run by government can be good.
Government helps his own family!
